How To Prepare A Pumpkin For Cooking
1 Start by washing the crown pumpkin thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or debris.
2 Use a sharp knife to carefully slice off the stem and the top portion of the pumpkin.
3 Cut the pumpkin in half vertically, from top to bottom.
3 Scoop out the seeds and stringy pulp from the center of the pumpkin using a spoon or an ice cream scoop.
4 Further cut the pumpkin into manageable-sized wedges or chunks for cooking.
TIPS
If you prefer, you can peel the pumpkin using a vegetable peeler or a knife to remove the tough outer skin.
For roasting, coat the pumpkin pieces with a drizzle of olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and place them on a baking sheet in a preheated oven.
If you're planning to make pumpkin puree, place the pumpkin pieces in a large pot with enough water to cover them and boil until tender.
Another option is steaming the pumpkin: place the pumpkin pieces in a steamer basket over boiling water and steam until easily pierced with a fork.
Consider cubing the pumpkin and using it in soups, stews, curries, or even as a roasted vegetable side dish.
